Baby Loss Awareness Week
Baby loss awareness week (9-15 October)
Baby Loss Awareness Week takes place annually and this year is from October 9th to 15th to raise awareness and offer support for those affected by pregnancy and baby loss. In Lancashire and South Cumbria, various events support the week.
Baby Beat’s Annual Walk to Remember:
A family-friendly one-mile walk in Preston’s Avenham Park on October 12th to honour lost babies and support families.

Service of Reflection and Remembrance:
Hosted by Baby Beat at St Cuthbert’s Church, Fulwood, on October 15th.
Little Stars Walks:
Organized by The Lullaby Trust, individuals can host their own walks locally during Baby Loss Awareness Week to raise money and awareness.
Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust:
Supports the week, offers hand and footprint keepsakes for bereaved parents, and provides bereavement care.
Available for support and psychological interventions for those affected by reproductive trauma including:
- Birth trauma
- A fear of childbirth (tokophobia)
- Perinatal loss – including:
- early miscarriage,
- recurrent miscarriage,
- stillbirth,
- neonatal death,
- termination of pregnancy for any reason,
- parent infant separation at birth.
This service offers trained therapists that can provide a range of psychological interventions and support. Referrals via Initial Response Service, Maternity, Mental Health and Health Visiting. The International Wave of Light is held on October 15th by lighting a candle at 7 pm. Candles are lit across the world to remember babies who have died during pregnancy or infancy. This creates a worldwide tribute and supports bereaved families to feel they are not alone.
